It is often worth recalling that the Catholic Church lives solely on the generosity of its members. Indeed, since the 1905 law on the "Separation of the Churches and the State", the Church in France has received no government funding. Nor does it receive any from the Vatican, as some people sometimes believe. It is therefore vital, if the Church is to fulfil its mission, that Christians support it.
The running costs of parishes are partly covered by collections and by the offerings received for personal requests such as
weddings, baptisms, funerals or Mass intentions, for example. These offerings are given directly at the time
of the ceremonies. The suggested amounts are the same across parishes. They are often given as a cheque made payable to:
« Paroisse Saint-Maurice ».
See the suggested offerings below:
The Denier de l'Église (Church contribution, formerly called the denier du culte) is a donation made directly to the Diocese. It helps meet
all the needs of the Church, and especially those of each priest who devotes all his time to his ministry.
