Altar servers

The altar servers of Saint Maurice parish

  • about fifteen boys serving at Saint-Gatien Cathedral and Saint-Pierre-Ville church,
  • an older server who leads the group, supported by the parish priest and a father.

Why become an altar server?

Pope Benedict XVI:

“You too are already apostles of Jesus! When you take part in the Liturgy by carrying out your service at the altar, you bear witness to everyone. Your prayerful attitude, which comes from the heart and is expressed in your gestures, your singing, your participation, all of this is already apostolate. You are very close to Jesus in the Eucharist, and this is the greatest sign of his friendship for you. Always let yourselves be filled with wonder at so much love and closeness! Dear altar servers, always be friends and apostles of Jesus!”

Service and activities

Serving at the altar:

  • adds to the beauty of the celebrations,
  • helps the priest and the congregation to pray,
  • deepens the server’s friendship with Christ in the Eucharist.

Training:

  • from time to time on Sunday mornings, before Mass, for training and to prepare the great liturgical feasts,
  • a 10-minute debrief after each Mass,
  • once a year: a review with the group leader and the parish priest, and the presentation of a coloured cord.

Times of fellowship

The servers meet regularly to deepen their faith and strengthen the bond between them (outings, films…).

Would you like to serve?
